About Rishikesh
Often referred to as the Yoga capital of the world, Rishikesh (also spelled Hrishikesh) is an administrative division of the Dehradun district in Uttarakhand. Known mostly for its spiritual significance, religious heritage and vibrant culture, it is revered by locals and frequented extensively by travellers from around the nation as well as abroad. Rishikesh is relatively well-connected. Travelling from the country’s capital to this city is pretty much a breeze. Rishikesh lounges at an elevation of 372 meters, making it a comfortably located town i.e. easy to reach, but not without its geographical charms. The mountains in Rishikesh birth the Ganga river, which then flows into Haridwar. The river is an area of spiritual intrigue and one of the most well-preserved aspects of this gorgeous place nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Rishikesh Weather and Temperature
While not quite temperate, Rishikesh’s temperature ranges from a maximum of 38 degrees to a minimum of 24 degrees in the summer. In winters, the temperature ranges between a maximum of 28 degrees and a minimum of 9 degrees. Rishikesh’s weather is never too extreme, which makes it a pleasant visit regardless of the time of the year.
Things to Do at Rishikesh
There can be no dull days when one makes a plan to visit this pristine town. Do not mistake its serenity for boredom – it is teeming with life and authentic specimens of the culture of this great nation! The 137 m long Lakshman Jhula is a massive mechanical construction that connects the Tapovan and Jonk villages, and is quite the point of interest because of its sheer magnitude and sturdiness. The Ram Jhula, a similar structure only three kilometres away from Lakshman Jhula, and lovingly named after Lord Ram, is also a must-visit if you’re in town. Triveni Ghat, (which is on the bank of the Ganga river) and the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple are beautiful examples of Rishikesh’s spiritual glory and rich history. The evening Maha aarti at the ghat is quite a spectacle and manages to somehow both soothe and energize your senses no matter how many times you witness it. The Kunjapuri Devi Temple and Raghunath temple are also great places to visit if you’re looking for some soul-food. If you’re looking for more contemporary destinations ways to spend your time, places like the Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutiya) and adventure sports like the ones available at river rafting camps await you here! Offering something for everyone, Rishikesh is quite the package. Moreover, the diversity of places to lodge here, ranging from ashrams to top-tier hotels and a variety of hostels makes it perfect for your budget too.
