Auli Weather and Temperature

Owing to its geographical position and high altitude, Auli experiences cold weather throughout the year. In the summer months, the temperature is a pleasant range, between 22 degrees and 10 degrees. In the winters, the weather is more on the harsher side, with temperatures ranging between 13 degrees and -2 degrees. Snowfall becomes a characteristic of this beautiful hill station between late October and March.

Things to Do at Auli

The most obvious attraction of Auli is skiing, which is prevalent almost throughout the snowy season. Sightseeing is also a large aspect of the Auli experience because many of the most sublime Himalayan peaks are visible from relatively higher points. Nanda Devi and Trishul Peak are two of the most popularly noted sights here. Despite its quiet and quaint nature, Auli is a dream for thrill-seekers, because it also provides excellent opportunities for trekking and camping activities. The “Gondola”, or cable-car experience of Auli also lends unparalleled views of the sprawling valleys below and white peaks that touch the clouds. This gorgeous hill station also has much to offer to those looking to soothe their spirit, in the form of Joshimath (a temple hub) and the pristine Chenab Lake. About the Journey

The distance between Haridwar and Auli is approximately 205 kilometres. The various modes of travel that can be opted are as mentioned below –

  • Railway – If you wish you cover the journey by train, the smartest thing to do would be to take a train from the Haridwar Junction Railway Sation to the Rishikesh Railway Station, which is the closest one to Auli (i.e. 191 km away). Covering the distance from Haridwar to Rishikesh by train should take you no longer than an hour and a half at maximum. The fare should cost you somewhere between 200 – 300 rupees, depending on which train you opt for. Once you reach the Rishikesh Railway Station, cabs or taxis are easily available and will take you to Auli. The car journey will take you 6-7 hours, accounting for any hindrances on the way. The road is stunning and comes as a breath of fresh air for anyone looking for a pleasant change in scenery.

  • Flight – It is not possible to travel from Haridwar to Auli by plane, because both these destinations have a common closest airport, i.e. the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.
  • Bus – There are numerous buses available between the two destinations. Though one will have to reach Rishikesh first to travel via bus towards Auli. At Rishikesh bus stand around 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. one can easily board a bus available every hour to reach Joshimath in about 8 – 10hrs depending upon the road conditions. From Joshimath local taxis are available that will take you directly towards Auli.
  • Taxi | Cab

Because of the raod condition and lack of air or rail support. Your best option would be to take a cab or taxi from Haridwar to Auli. Traveling via road is also quite a quick and comfortable way of making the 205 km long journey. Renting a taxi or subscribing to an outstation cab service is the most feasible option, especially in the context of the current pandemic and health risks involved. It would take you 7 – 8hrs of mostly smooth travel to make the journey from Haridwar to Auli.
