Do Dham Yatra Itinerary

Day 01) Delhi to Haridwar

Today depart from Delhi to reach haridwar by noon. Enjoy local sightseeing of Haridwar today like Bharat Mata Mandir, Chandi Devi Mansa Devi, Har ki Pauri and other

Day 02) Haridwar to Guptakashi

In route places (Rishikesh – Dev prayag – Srinagar – Rudraprayag – Agastmuni – Guptakashi

The distance from Haridwar to Guptakashi is approx 210 kms. On your way from Haridwar to Kedarnath, you shall cross Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Agastmuni, and Guptakashi.

Day 03) Guptakashi – Sonprayag (by taxi with We Cabs) Sonprayag – Gaurikund (local bolero that takes about 50 rupees per person) than trek to Kedarnath

The trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is 16km and would take an average of 6 hours.

Kedarnath is one of the biggest holy pilgrim sites for Hindus. Lakhs of footfall mark their presence at Kedarnath temple which is open from April to November for the general public. The temple is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

It is said in mythology that Pandavas felt guilty after killing their cousins Kauravs, hence they were denied entry to heaven. To seek forgiveness, they went to Shivji. Shivji on the other hand took the avatar of the bull and grounded himself. It is said that Kedarnath is famous for having the bull’s hump and hence is one of the Panch Kedars.

Kedarnath is also a part of Chota Char Dham making its importance much higher and greater than other pilgrim sites.

The temple opens at 7 in the morning and closes post aarti after 6:30 in the evening.

Visit shankaracharya Samadhi

Adi Shankaracharya was a great scholar and saint of the Hindu dharma. He is known to establish the holy Chardham in India and also the mathas. And as a matter of fact, it was Adi Shankaracharya who established the Kedarnath shrine. After establishing them, the great saint attained nirvana or samadhi as they say at the young age of 32 near Kedarnath, which is visited by the pilgrims.

The Shankaracharya Samadhi is in fact the grave of the reverent which is situated near the Kedarnath temple.

Bhaironath temple

Baba Baironath is a fierce avatar of Lord Shiva, he is also known to be the protector of the Kedarnath temple. It is believed that baba Baironath keeps the evil spirits away from Kedarnath and protects it from any kind of damage as seen in the 2013 floods.

The temple is located just 800 metres to the north from Kedarnath and the devotees can take an uphill trek from Kedarnath as it would take them about 30 minutes to reach bhairav mandir.

Snan in tapt kund

Tapt Kund is located just at the entrance of Badrinath temple. we all are familiar with the climate and cold of Uttarakhand and Badrinath, but the Tapt Kund extract hot water as the devotees take a dip in it before entering Badrinath. It is said that Tapt Kund is the residing place of Agni deva (God of Fire) hence such a freezing place extracts hot water.

Snan in Gauri Kund

Gauri Kund is a very famous place in Hindu mythology, the place is important for 2 things. The place is named after Goddess Parvati, who is also known as Gauri, it is said that she meditated for 100 years to impress Shivji with her fondness for him, and it was this very place where Shivji confessed back to guruji about his love for her. Another being the famous story of Ganeshji’s beheading by Shivji as he was guarding this very kind against anyone entering it.

Gauri Kund also acts as the base for trek to Kedarnath.

Darshan of Udar Kund

Udak Kund holds very special and unique importance as it is believed that Udak Kund water has healing powers. Whosoever takes a dip in this holy river gets rid of their physical and mental pain.

Day 04) Kedarnath – Sonprayag – Guptakashi

Guptakashi is 22km from Kedarnath and shall take about 1 and half hours to cover the distance.

The Triyuginaryan temple in this Rudraprayag district is of utmost importance and is highly respected.

The temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu and stands in the place where Shivji and Goddess Parvati got married in the presence of Vishnuji and Brahmaji. A highlight of the temple is the perpetual fire that burns at the temple entrance and is said to be burning since the divine marriage. This lord Vishnu dedicated temple is also known as Akhand Dhuni temple.

Day 05) Guptakashi to Joshimath (local places to visit Joshimath)

The distance between Guptakashi to Joshimath is 157km and can be covered by taking the NH7 and NH107. There are 3 routes to reach Joshimath and the NH to take depends on the route you are going on.

Take a detour to explore the wonders of Joshimath and do not miss the cable car or/and ropeway experience.

Some of the tourist attractions in Joshimath are-

Narsingh Temple- The temple has a rich history associated with Narasimha’s killing of Hiranyakashyap. The idol of Narasimha resides here as a symbol of his meditation to calm himself after the kill. It is a highlight of Joshimath’s tour package. A magnificent event that takes places here is the shrinking of the idol’s left hand annually. It is believed that once the hand falls of the idol, the Jai parvat and Vijay parvat will have a landslide, blocking the entrance to Badrinath forever.

Valley of Flowers- The Valley of Flowers National Park is accessible only from May to September annually. The park is home to diverse flora and fauna and one can witness the rare sightings of snow leopard, brown bear, blue sheep, musk deer, and red fox.

Hemkund Sahib- Devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the Hemkund Sahib is situated at a height of 4,160 m. This Sikh place of worship is located at the lake Hemkund. Similar to Valley of Flowers, the Hemkund Sahib is open to public only from May to September.

Kalpeshwar temple- One of the Panch Kedars, the Kalpeshwar temple is the only one accessible to the public all-through the year. The temple was built by the Pandavas on the place where the hair of Shivji’s bull form resurfaced. The Kalpeshwar temple is about 28km from Joshimath.

Day 06) Joshimath to Badrinath to Joshimath

Badrinath temple is one of the 108 pilgrimage sites in India. The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is one of the Char Dham of India. Hence it attracts one of the biggest footfalls of the year. However, the temple located in Badrinath is opened for 6 months and is closed in winters due to the harsh weather.

It is said that Lord Vishnu meditated in padmasana at the place for over 100/1000 years and unaware of the harsh climate, his wife goddess Laksmi took the avatar of a Badri tree to protect Vishnuji. Impressed by her concerns, Vishnuji named the place after Badri, even if you visit the deity, then it’s in the shape of padmasana.

The Badrinath temple opens from April or May and closes during November, and then remains shut for 6 months due to extreme weather. Although when open, the door timings for the temple are 4:30 in the morning with the maha abhishekh puja. Then at around 7 am the temple is opened for the general public and closes at 9 pm with the Shayan aarti. 

The rituals that are allowed to be performed in Badrinath are Shrimad Bhagwat Saptah Path, Vishnu Sahasranamam, and Akhand Jyoti.

Shrimad Bhagwat Sapath is a summary of all the Hindu scriptures and listening to it will attract the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Vishnu Sahasranamam is the chanting of mantras, and listening and enchanting these mantras help a person remain focused in life. Akhand Jyoti is performed with a jyot and doing this will help a person attain blessings from god.

Vyas Gufa is another place that holds a great significant value in India’s mythology. It is said that Vyas Gufa is the place where sage Vyas with the help of Lord Ganesh composed the Mahabharat. Vayas Gufa is situated in the Mana Village and the cave is just 5 km away from the Badrinath.

Ganesh temple

There is a Ganesha temple located on the banks of Dodital lake in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Dodital is the birthplace of Ganeshji and hence this temple holds a greater significance.

Narad kund

Narad Kund is just adjacent to the Tapt Kund, which is just outside the Badrinath temple. Hence it also becomes an important part of the pilgrimage tour. The hot water that the Kund is getting comes from Gauri Shila, a spiritual rock. And that spot is named after Narad Muni, who sat there and wrote the Narada bhakti sutra.

Mata Murty temple

Another pilgrimage site located just 3 km from Badrinath temple, Mata Murti temple is situated at the bank of the Alaknanda River. The temple is dedicated to the mother of nar and Narayan (Badrinath).

Devotees can take a 30 min trek from Badrinath temple to reach the Mata Murti temple.

Day 07) Joshimath to Haridwar to Delhi

The distance between Joshimath to Haridwar is 274 km. On your descend you can explore towns and cities such as Srinagar, Rishikesh, and Rudraprayag. Later, travel from Haridwar to Delhi to reach by morning next day.
